From Grey to Green: Stradbroke Primary Academy's Eco-Warriors Lead the Charge
Back
This week marks an exciting step in Stradbroke Primary Academy’s objective to create greener spaces around the school grounds. Working with the Royal Horticultural Society and the National Education Nature Park, the school has secured a £7000 grant as part of their ‘Grey to Green Scheme’, aiming to support the rejuvenation of spaces across the site as summer approaches.
New resources to help back the project have been arriving this week, and the school’s eco-warriors have already made progress on installing a new fence around the hedge that is starting to grow in the outdoor area. Assisting in the task was Stradbroke’s very own Principal, Mr Bell, who was happy to get stuck in and help with the construction!
The vision of this project is to not only turn some of the greyer areas of the school into green living walls to brighten the site and grounds, but also make these spaces a haven for the local wildlife and support many habitats. It also has the added bonus of supporting the curriculum, allowing pupils at Stradbroke to access a different environment and help with some of the school's science topics!

The ‘Grey to Green Scheme’, managed by the Royal Horticultural Society and in collaboration with the National Education Nature Park, is focused on creating or improving spaces for nature to thrive. Funded by the Department of Education, it aims to help education settings rejuvenate grey spaces into natural habitats, creating homes and resources for wildlife to move into and thrive, and a greener space in which to work and learn.
